Inspired by new technologies and the global brands associated with them, such as Tesla, Apple and Google, visionary developer Thomas “Thömu” Binggeli came up with a uniquely innovative e-bike, the Stromer. Right from the first model, standout features included a distinctive design coupled with exceptionally high power. In 2009 Thömu established the Swiss premium brand that shared its name – Stromer – and launched the e-bike onto the market under precisely that name.
myStromer AG develops and markets innovative e-bikes. The strength of the company lies in the development of and mechanical components, electric components, software, and the complete system integration. The Swiss company was founded in 2009 by Thomas Binggeli. In March, 2013 the company opened its headquarters in Oberwangen near Bern, Switzerland. The entire facility’s energy is provided by rooftop solar cells, and every battery used in the assembly of Stromer e-bikes is filled with solar-derived energy. At the Oberwangen campus, management, engineering, research and development, assembly, logistics, customer service and even a Stromer flagship retail store are located under one roof. A second assembly location for the European market is located in Riedstadt, Germany.
In 2011 the second Stromer model, the ST1, arrived on the market. The extremely high-performance e-bike with an impressive range is capable of traveling at up to 45 km/h with rider assistance. The ST1 was a massive hit in Switzerland, but its sales popularity was not limited to Europe: The brand was also launched in the United States. In the same year, the Swiss premium bike brand BMC Switzerland AG took over the ambitious national company.
In March 2013 Stromer opened its new head offices in Oberwangen, just outside the Swiss capital Bern. This campus, extending over 4,400 m2, is the nexus of Stromer’s in-house technology. It houses the management, design, research and development, assembly and customer service functions as well as a Stromer Flagship store all under one roof. There is also a second assembly plant for the European market in Riedstadt, Germany.
The next innovation of the Stromer brand appeared in March 2014 – the ST2, the world’s first digitally connected e-bike. As well as communicating with its owner’s smartphone via the Stromer app, it also shares information. That, along with its many other qualities, helped it become the undisputed market leader. It was then followed by a veritable power pack: the Stromer ST2 S, an e-bike with superior technology. Stromer’s next coup came at the start of 2017: the ST1 X. This colorful e-bike from the market leader embraces cosmopolitan style, to help it conquer cities worldwide.
Spring 2017 sees the premium brand Stromer move confidently forward. The company is widening its pool of investors and reshuffling the Administrative Board. Andy Rhis, Ernst Thomke and Thomas Binggeli will now be joined by Ruedi Noser (Noser Management AG), Stefan Schwab (watchmaking industry) and other major figures from the financial sector. This completes Stromer’s separation from its former parent company BMC Switzerland AG and the laying of solid foundations for a successful future.
